The Malden High School Alumni Association is looking to honor teachers, coaches and class and club advisors in an energized campaign to sell seat-naming rights in Jenkins Auditorium.
The MHSAA is urging alums to pay tribute to these people with
special engraved bronze-like nameplates on the seats in the
auditorium (see photos on www.maldenhighalumni.com)
These are the dedicated people who helped guide multiple
generations of students in class, sports and in clubs such as
English, history, math, science, German, Spanish, French,
physical education, home economics, child care, and in the arts.
The MHSAA wants to “encourage individuals to step up to name
a seat for someone in this special group,” said Diane Lind,
Class of ’54, who chairs the “Name a Seat” campaign.
The alumni group also suggests “groups of four or five people to
go in together” to honor a particular coach or teacher, Lind said,
and perhaps there will be a special area in the auditorium set aside
as a “teachers” section.
The cost of each nameplate is $100.
About half of the 904 seats in Jenkins have been “sold” with
nameplates engraved and already permanently installed.
Lind said the goal of this latest effort is to add at least another
100 named seats this school year.
“If this special campaign works well,” Lind said, “the money we
take in through seat-naming should be used to fund five $1,000
Some of the funds raised will also be used to help individual
students in need, and for other student activities, she said.
Seat reservation forms and instructions are available on the
MHSAA website, www.maldenhighalumni.com.
